INTI's Got Talent 2012 - 'A Turning Point'

Once said by Rosalynn Carter (1927), “You have to have the confidence in your ability and then be tough enough to follow through’’. The 10 finalists of INTI’s Got Talent 2012 proved this statement right when they rocked the stage on the 21st March 2012 at INTI International University’s Multipurpose Hall. The audience was awed; the judges were impressed! Their changes as an individual indeed matched the theme set for this event: “A Turning Point”. The talent contest welcomed over 900 guests.

INTI’s Got Talent has been a 4-month project that started off back in December 2011; pre-selection rounds followed until the finals this month. The finals were divided in two sessions; round 1 and round 2; round 2 saw the top 5 finalists competing for the title. The finals started off with the organizing chairperson officiating the event; soon after, the 10 finalists showcased their talents in front of an eager crowd. Talents varying from dancing, singing, magic performance and band performance left the audience in admiration; the judges were blown away with the progress of the finalists – from the pre-selection rounds until the finals – and the level of perfection that they had reached. Despite the fierce competition shown by the 10 finalists, only the best 5 managed to enter 2nd round of the finals; the audience also had the chance to vote for their favorite contestants with a live voting booth present at the event. The Top 5 finalists were Indonesian Saman Dance, Canaan the Magician, Sabrina the Latin Dancer, Impossible D – a trio of diabolo performers – and Alfred the freestyle dancer.

Elimination round

External performers were also invited for the occasion. Ms Claudine – one of the judges for the pre-selection rounds – sang beautifully on Beyonce while Keith – one of the night’s judges – performed harmonica and saxophone musicals. They instantly became hit among the audience who was eager for more showcasing. The most celebrated guest performer was Victor Wong, a Malaysian celebrity who performed during the finals while on tour around Asia. His appearance made the atmosphere at the hall livelier.

Although the objective was to bring out the best talents among the university’s community, the other important objective of this project was to raise funds for underprivileged homes. The organizing committee managed to donate part of the proceeds to Persatuan Rumah Caring, Kajang and HUGS Organization, underprivileged children organization. Some senior students dubbed the event a premiere at INTI International University for the event merged an entertainment show with charity-based purposes. Such events with meaningful purposes can only obtain merits for they are shaping up students to become responsible citizens while having the time of their life in presenting entertainment shows!

With the clock ticking midnight and after intense discussions, the five judges – who are well versed in the music and media industries – ended the suspense with Impossible D as the Champion of INTI’s Got Talent 2012; Alfred the freestyle dancer being 1st Runner Up and Sabrina the Latin dancer being 2nd Runner Up. The event ended in a merry and warm atmosphere along with an autograph session by Victor Wong.
