Blood Donation January 2011

Blood Donation is an event that held by LEO Club of INTI International University every semester at INTI International University. This time, it was held from 11th of April until 15th April. The purpose of this event is to help the state hospital to get some blood supply in order to save those in need.

Blood Donation Jan '11 started from 9am until 4pm daily at the Student Concourse. This event was successfully organized due to the hand in hand teamwork from LEO Blood Donation’s committees and helpers. Due to the great response of donors, we decided to extend one more day on 15th April, which is not in the initial plan.

This semester, we manage to reach our target by getting approximately 350 donors . Besides, we also succeed to hold some sub event in our Blood Donation Jan '11 such as SMILES Campaign, Dengue Awareness Talk and "HPV & U Campaign".

For SMILES Campaign, we took plenty of the photos of students and lecturers. The photos will be combined into one and donated to orphanage homes and old folks homes. Moreover, we also organized "Competition of SMILES" which allow our LEO members to vote for the best smile. Ten winners are being awarded by the prizes shown by the picture below.

As for Dengue Awareness Talk and "HPV & U Campaign", we have invited 2 doctors who are professional in these field for the educational talks. The talks are organized separately on 2 days, which are 12th and 13th April. The messages and awareness are successfully delivered to the students and lecturers who attended the talk.

Lastly, we would like to express our gratitude for all the helping hand and those who have participated in our events.

LEO Mission

On the 23rd of April, the LEO Club of INTI International University organized a LEO Mission educational trip to the National Science Centre for the children of Rumah Hope, Petaling Jaya.

At 9:30AM, we arrived at the National Science Centre, with 13 children guided by equal number of students from INTI-IU LEO Club who volunteered to look after them.

Inside National Science Centre, there are many interactive exhibits about various scientific principles, from the daily sciences to the more obscure but nonetheless important sciences that made modern living possible. At the central exhibit right under the impressive dome structure of the science building, there was a dinosaur exhibition, with life-size dinosaurs being display that were fixed with mechanical motors inside to make them move realistically.

Needless to say, the children were very excited upon entering the National Science Centre. They were engrossed with the interactive stations that were both fun and informative. We did our best to help them learn the science behind the exhibits by explaining and playing with them.

At 12:30PM, it was time to go home. We sent them home to Petaling Jaya and bid them good bye. They were very happy and thankful that we spent a morning with them bringing them out for a trip.

Charity Night

Leo Charity Night 2011 is a meaningful event organized by the Omega Leo Club of INTI International University at Multi Purpose Hall (MPH) in INTI-IU. The date of the event was on 16th March 2011, from 6.30pm to 11pm. The purpose of this event was to help the orphanages homes by raising fund from the public and students of INTI International University. We have invited five orphanage homes to participate in this heart touching event and they are as such: House of Joy, Rumah Charis, Rumah Hope, Trinity Community Centre and Sithamani Divine Life Ashram.

The theme “Ignite the Spark of Love” is formed for our Charity Night 2011 and Multi Purpose Hall was decorated based on safari night life. The theme of the night carried the meaning of showing every one of us has a heart to love, care and feel sympathy for the unfortunate one. It was a night which fortunate citizens like us are able to show compassion to those who in need, no matter where they come from. Thus, by passing on the love we had received from our loved one, it’s like “igniting” our love towards them.

Various kinds of performances were being presented for the audience and also the orphans. We invited several local artists to perform in the Charity Night and the local artists are Athena Beh ( 马嘉轩) , Lin Kah Jun ( 凌加峻 ), Ke Qing(可晴), Angeline Khoo, Next2U and Kou Jee( Malaysia Top5 beat boxer ). In addition, there were also performances by our INTI students such as dancing performance by INTI Dance Academy Club, live concert band by INTI Concert Band, performances from the orphans themselves and etc.

Initially, our aim was to raise at least RM1000 for the 5 different orphanages homes. However, an amazing feat by the Organizing Chairperson of Charity Night 2011, LEO Law Zhi Chiat and also the organizing committees who managed to raise RM 18250 at the end of the event. The fund collected was donated equally to the five orphanages homes which mean that each house would receive RM3650. We hope that the donation collected will help the children to have better life.

Behind the scene of this event, there’s a great amount of hard work, sacrifice and of course a kind heart from the organizing committees, but how do we managed to achieve triple the amount of our initial target? First of all, we emphasized that this event is a charity based event via performances by local artist and the orphans themselves and not some glamorous ball night. In order to convince the student body that the Charity Night 2011 is a charitable event, we publicize it by opening booths at INTI’s Student Concourse, sending out man power to collect donations, posting posters in INTI Online and sticking flyers regarding the event at the walkways of INTI-IU.

Besides that, we would also like to express our best compliments and gratitude to those who have sponsored and donated to our event. Our main sponsorship was from Hai-O (Mr. Tan Kee Hock) who sponsored the local artists to perform in our event and our main donor for the night was Old Town White Coffee Children Fund Care which they donated as much as RM 5,000.

In addition, this event helped the committees to enhance their leadership, communication skills, and team work as LEO is defined as Leadership, Experience and Opportunity. Therefore, the organizing committee will be able to learn how to respect each other’s leadership skills and corporate with one another to solve any difficulties together. The event ended by comforting the crying orphans who were touched.
